a dream
Here's a pic of some of the cutest dishcloths I"ve ever seen. I made them from a recipe given to me by my friend Kendra who has a bigger and even more colorful array of these at her house. They are so easy to make and kitchen cotton has sorta become an obsession lately...

14th-May-2007 03:11 pm - Hemp Yarn
all smiles
Does anybody have any experience with hemp yarn, I"m looking to mix up my media a little for dishcloths. Since hemp is a natural, plant fiber I was wondering how it would hold up. Although I like the cotton I've been using I'm getting tired of the same old Sugar n Cream colors. Any insight would be appreciated...

all smiles
I have just finished two baby quilts...Quick question for anyone who cares to answer, I washed the fabric for the quilts, but I was thinking of washing the final project before I wrap them. I just get a little nervous that they may fall apart and I'd rather they fall apart for me and not the new mom...

Am I crazy?

17th-Jan-2007 08:36 pm - I've Been Sewing Again
I've been sewing again and here is what I made... a little purse with cute fringe trim. I bought the fabric at Walmart and found the pattern as a freebie somewhere on line (I can't remember where now).

I thought this would be a cute purse for spring. I love the colors & I have a bit of spring fever. That is unfortunate as we got 4 inches of snow yesterday and today the high temperature was -4 degrees without the wind chill.

I bought some more fabric today with a gift card that I got from my boss. So there will be another purse and a table runner coming soon.
7th-Jan-2007 10:15 pm - More Socks But With Special Yarn
daily life
There is podcast online called Lime & Violet which bills itself as "the knitting podcast for the yarn obsessed".  While I'm not a knitter (I *REALLY* need someone to teach me how), I'm addicted to it.  (Warning: the content can be kind of R-rated at times so make sure your kids under 12 aren't listening to it with you.)

Anyway... one of the women who does it, MissViolet, found a lump in her breast a month ago and it's been one of the subjects of the shows ever since because her insurance is really crappy and she has to come up with her $1000 deductible up front in addition to whatever her insurance doesn't cover.  So... one of the listeners contacted Lisa Souza and Lisa made a special colorway called "Violet's Pink Ribbon" (pink and white with flecks of lime and violet) and is donating a chunk of the proceeds from the sale of that yarn to Violet's medical fund.

Being a good listener, I ordered some in December (it's $16.00 per skein and shipping is between $1-$2 depending on where you live) and it arrived while I was gone.  Since L&V are obsessive about making socks and sock yarn, what better project is there than some socks!  I'm using a pattern for toe-up socks (look at the last entry for the link) and I've got part of the toe done so far.

The toe of my sock thus far compared to my mouse.

The toe in detail with the colors

The yarn on my icky-looking computer chair (that should have been burned in the 1970's)

Mom showing off the socks next to her Maine Coon cat Trail Kitty

For Christmas, I made my mommy some striped socks.  I used an I-hook and Moda Dea Sassy Stripes yarn in Stormy.  They were actually pretty easy once I got the hang of the heel -- they're crocheted toe-up.

(Oh yes... the resplendent beast is my parents' Maine Coon kitty.)
